Health care is one of the most expensive services in the world today. In the developing world like Kenya, it costs an arm and a leg to get some dignified health care and treatment. For instance, a heart transplant at the Nairobi Hospital may set you back KES 10 million/USD 100 000 and the same procedure costs ten times less in India, considering travelling expenses and what not. This is largely caused by lack of adequate medical infrastructure, brain drain and incompetence by active practitioners.
I say prevention is better than cure, yes indeed you can avoid that heart condition, by eating healthy food, if you can afford it, eat organic food, it is healthier and less harmful to the environment.
Lifestyle diseases (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, obesity, osteoporosis, depression) have been spreading fast among Kenyans to the point that Aga Khan University hospital due to one thing, lifestyle. Kenyans are eating more fast foo than slow food, more inorganic chemicals than organics, more processed food, than cooked food. A good example is how Nairobians were fascinated on the launch of the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), ignoring the fact that KFC chicken is Genetically modified and is currently under several law suits for it’s carcinogenic properties.
Children are weaned at age of 2 months and fed microwaved formula, it’s unbelieveable.
Vegan, Vegetarian or Animal Murderer
The main cause of most heart conditions, stroke, high blood pressure is bad LDL cholesterol from animal fat. What happens is, animal fat or LDL cholesterol cannot be dissolved in the blood hence is deposited in the inner walls of your blood vessels. This creates less room for your blood to move around increasing it pressure leading to a medical condition known as hypertension of high blood pressure in lay man’s terms. Solid LDL cholesterol may form a blood clot which may block the narrow artery, leading to a stroke or heart attack.
Vegans and vegetarians don’t have to worry about this, only meat eaters, dairy products also contain substantial amounts of saturated fats which have LDL cholesterol and clog your arteries.
Personally I am a vegetarian, would like to be a vegan but you can’t really resist some roasted goat on Christmas, what are you?
